From April 27th to 29th, 2023, the 2nd International Conference on Pavement Function Design and Management (PFDM) was held in Portugal. Initiated by Chang'an University in 2019, the conference aims to promote international academic exchange and advance research and development in pavement function design and management. It has become one of the significant conferences in the field of pavement function. The conference focused on innovative design and sustainable development in road transportation, inviting experts and scholars from around the world to discuss hot topics and cutting-edge technologies in this field. Professor Fwa Tien Fang, the President ofCollege ofFuture Transportation of Chang'an University and an academician of the Singapore Academy of Engineering, Professor Han Sen from the Highway College of Chang'an University, and Associate Professor Chu Longjia were invited to participate in the conference.
Professor Fwa Tien Fang, as the only keynote speaker invited to this conference, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony and gave a keynote report titled "Challenges of Sustainable Pavement Design and Development in the Digital Era." Starting from the perspectives of big data, intelligent technology, and sustainable development, Professor Fwa Tien Fang delved into pavement design and development in the digital era, which resonated strongly with the attendees.
During the conference, Professor Han Sen presented an academic report entitled "Research on Indoor High-Speed Tire-Pavement Interaction Noise Testing Method." Addressing the issue of road noise pollution, Professor Han proposed a new indoor testing method, offering a new approach to mitigate urban noise pollution. Associate Professor Chu Longjia delivered an academic report titled "A New Experimental-Numerical Determination Method for the Thermal Conductivity of Road Materials," presenting a series of new testing methods and research findings from the aspects of "experimental determination of the thermal conductivity of road materials" and "measurement of the permeability of porous pavement." These findings will have significant guiding implications for the research and design of road materials.
During the conference, President Fwa Tien Fang also introduced the advanced research achievements in the field of road transportation made by Chang'an University in recent years, with a particular focus onCollege ofFuture Transportation of Chang'an University and the international journal "Journal of Road Engineering" hosted by Chang'an University.
The conference received high attention and active participation from scholars around the world. The academic achievements presented in the reports by President Fwa Tien Fang and his delegation were widely recognized by the attendees, contributing to expanding the international academic exchange and cooperation of Chang'an University and promoting the dissemination of academic achievements, thereby enhancing the international reputation and influence of Chang'an University.
